Fisheries Reports
In recent years, we have commissioned a number of papers and
have written a number of documents ourselves in relation to the
reform of the CFP. These may be downloaded though the buttons on
the left. The first paper "The integration of fisheries management
and marine wildlife conservation" explores ways of carrying out
such integration. The paper suggests that an ecosystem-based
approach, incorporating wildlife conservation issues at the
regional seas level is probably the most appropriate way
forward.
The following two papers 'An ecosystem-based approach to the
Common Fisheries Policy: defining the goals' and 'An
ecosystem-based approach to the Common Fisheries Policy: achieving
the objectives' were commissioned in order to take this theme
further. A paper 'The ecosystem-based approach' describes our
policy in this area. We have also taken an interest in the
application of the precautionary principle in fisheries management,
and two papers: 'The precautionary principle and approach' and
'Fisheries management: sustainability and the precautionary
principle' discuss this issue further.
Two meetings have been held to bring together colleagues
working as governmental advisors or scientists across Europe to
discuss the integration of wildlife and marine fisheries policy.
These meetings are summarised in 'Fisheries and Environment
workshop, Gatwick' and 'Conclusions of a meeting of environmental
advisors from European States, Brussels'.
We have presented comprehensive evidence on the Green Paper on
the future of the CFP to the European Commission 'Response to the
European Commission Green Paper: the future of the Common Fisheries
Policy' and have commissioned a number of policy papers since on
areas within this advice 'EN papers'.
Finally, we are concerned about the impact of deep-sea
fisheries 'Deep water demersal fisheries'.
