Marine Recorder

As part of the National Biodiversity Network (NBN) development, JNCC has moved the Marine Nature Conservation Review (MNCR) data set out of its Advance Revelation database application into one compatible with the NBN. Development of this more user-friendly database application should encourage the wider use of the database as a means to store data consistently; and better links to other data repositories is essential. Marine Recorder was developed using Microsoft Access and the first phase of the development, the data capture component, was released to the conservation agencies (CCW, EHS, SNH, Natural England (formally English Nature)) in May 2002, together with the first export of the MNCR data.

To complement the Recorder 2000 software, a Marine Recorder application to capture marine (benthic) biological data has been developed. Marine Recorder is fully compatible with the NBN data model, enabling data to be contributed to the NBN Gateway. It is the main database used by the conservation agencies to hold marine monitoring habitat data for Special Areas of Conservation.

The Marine Recorder application is now available, including application following phase two development, documentation, and a snapshot application for extracting data from the database.
