Conservation objectives
The Pilot project has set a framework of conservation
objectives to serve as a benchmark against which to assess the
impacts from human activities, and guide management policy.
Originally, it was intended that conservation objectives would be
set at each level of the framework for marine nature conservation.
As work progressed it became clear that such an approach would be
technically onerous and difficult to implement in practice because
of its complexity.
Therefore, the conservation objectives framework
proposed is aligned, wherever possible, with the objectives of
other sectors, the overall context of Sustainable Development and
the RMNC Strategic Goals for the marine environment.
The conservation objectives framework is set out
in the main report of the Pilot project and in a separate report
for download. (
