Global Strategy for Plant Conservation

JNCC acts as the UK Focal Point for the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC).  This is an international initiative which is a part of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

A UK response to the global initiative has been issued in a report entitled Plant Diversity Challenge: The UK’s response to the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.  This was produced, following extensive consultation, by a partnership between JNCC, Plantlife International, and the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.  Together, these three organisations make up the GSPC UK Implementation Group.  Copies of Plant Diversity Challenge are available online or from Communications, JNCC.

The GSPC UK Implementation Group also administers a website on UK implementation.  This provides details of targets, actions, progress, news and projects.

Other relevant reports on GSPC implementation are:

China National Strategy for Plant Conservation
2006 Plant Diversity Challenge Conference
Third National Reportfrom the United Kingdom to the Convention on Biological Diversity
