EN Papers

To help inform the debate to the Common Fisheries Policy Review English Nature (EN) and the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) have published a series of five short briefings as part of a joint project. They cover:

  • Integrating environment into the Common Fisheries Policy
  • Fish stock conservation: a role for strategic fisheries management planning?
  • Mediterranean issues: towards effective fisheries management
  • Good governance and the Common Fisheries Policy: an environmental perspective
  • The Polluter pays principle and fisheries: the role of taxes and charges

The papers focus on what environmental integration means in relation to EU fisheries policy, outline the potential benefits for the fisheries sector of strategic management planning and highlight the role of EU fisheries policy in the Mediterranean. They also address how improvements could be made, consider the policy instruments in place to promote good governance in relation to the environment and review issues and options for using taxes and charges.
