Foreign Direct Investment

UK Foreign investment into four business sectors identified as most significant for overseas biodiversity impacts

is developing techniques to track UK Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into selected countries with the objective of linking monetary flows to potential ecosystem impacts.

UK government data is being used to map FDI trends through time in respect of geographical and business sector distribution of investments. Key business sectors have been identified and work is in progress to highlight environmental impacts of these sectors in terms of sustainability, ecosystem services and biodiversity.

Sector and geographical analysis is being combined with other data to identify corporate ‘sustainability leaders’ in each sector and to define sector best practice in respect of general ecosystem and specific biodiversity impacts.
