Analysing surveillance needs and coverage – using the
Surveillance Framework
An important part of the Strategy is an
analysis of surveillance requirements; current coverage, gaps and
overlaps; and recommendations for the future development of
surveillance. The Surveillance Framework (see below) contains
a full analysis of surveillance in relation to each of the
three surveillance objectives. This document is
still being developed, and is used to provide the summary
information on the objectives in the Surveillance Strategy (February
2009 version).
JNCC is in the process of reviewing a range of
policy areas, and more detailed analyses and explanation can be
found under Using the Strategy.
These detailed analyses are used to update the Surveillance
Framework. Updating this framework will also lead to an update of
the Surveillance Strategy.
Eventually the Framework will be based on an
analysis of surveillance need against a range of policies and
reporting obligations. Amongst others, the analyses of
Chemical Impacts on Biodiversity and Supporting UKBAP Species and Habitat
Reporting have been completed and incorporated into the
Framework. The Assessment of the Surveillance
Rationale and Objectives also contributes to the analysis
of the Framework.
