Why the Strategy does not cover marine surveillance needs as well

In the marine environment the UK Marine Monitoring and Assessment Strategy (UK-MMAS) has established a parallel approach to UK –EOF.  Several subgroups help the groups with this work and specifically the Healthy and Biologically Diverse Seas Evidence Group (HBDSEG ) has a remit on co-ordinating information gathering for oceanographic, health and biodiversity purposes.  This group has set up the United Kingdom Directory of Marine Observing Systems (UKDMOS) as an information source on such schemes, and this closely parallels the database of terrestrial biodiversity surveillance schemes  presented here.
