The updates provided need to be run in sequence, working
from the bottom to the top of this page. The Dictionary Upgrade Kit
will not allow you to run them out of sequence and an appropriate
error message will be displayed if the 'next' upgrade file is
missing.
To run the various upgrades:
-
Download the dictionary upgrade kit
Note that the Dictionary Upgrade Kit has been updated in line with
the internationalisation of version 6.10. Users at version 6.10
onwards need to use 'Dictionary Upgrade Kit V3' to update their
dictionaries. This file replaces the previous Dictionary Upgrade
kit supplied and should be downloaded to your hard disk and
unzipped. The new Upgrade Kit does not include any updates to the
dictionary itself but includes a permissions fix for use
with Vista. Click here to download
Dictionary Upgrade Kit V3
-
Download each upgrade file
Download each file required by clicking on the filename below.
Save each file to a temporary location on your computer NOT
\Dictionary Upgrade Kit\Scripts, then unzip EACH of them to the
Scripts folder prior to running the DictionaryUpgrade.exe file
(ensure that the outer zip is not included in the
scripts folder otherwise the upgrade will not work).
When running the K, L, and M upgrades, for example, the
Scripts folder should contain 0000000K.sql, 0000000L.ini,
0000000L.zip, 0000000M.ini, 0000000M.zip and, ReadMe.txt. It
shouldn’t contain the files you download, i.e.
Rec6Dict_0000000K_UnzipMe.zip, Rec6Dict_0000000L_UnzipMe.zip and
Rec6Dict_0000000M_UnzipMe.zip. If it contains these Rec6Dict files
the upgrade won’t run correctly. Note that the help on upgrading
the dictionaries in Recorder 6 is out of date on this issue and
that this webpage is the most up-to-date advice on this).
After unzipping, these files will either have a .sql or a
.zip file extension and will have a filename of 8 characters
(eg 0000000H.zip or 0000000G.sql). From 0000000L onwards
the .zip upgrades are accompanied by an .ini file which simply
provides a progress bar for the zip file. Do not
rename any of the files and do not unzip any files twice (ie
retain any zipped files that have an 8 character filename as
zipped files - 0000000H.zip). Once you have downloaded the
outstanding files needed you are ready to run the upgrade. Due to
the time taken to run the upgrade if you need all or most of the
files provided here we advise you to run the following in separate
'batches': 00000000.sql - 00000003.sql; 00000004.sql -
0000000A.sql; 0000000B.zip - 0000000E.sql; 0000000F.sql -
0000000I.sql; 0000000J.sql - 0000000M.zip; 0000000N.zip.
-
Run the upgrade
Double click on the DictionaryUpgrade.exe file and use either
trusted connection (windows authentication) or an appropriate SQL
Server login to proceed. With a default instance of MSDE installed
by Recorder 6 you can use the 'sa' login with the password left
blank. Note: if you are using SQL Server 2005 or SQL Express with
Recorder 6, you need to use the trusted connection option to update
your database.
-
Rebuild indexes
Once the upgrade has completed go to Tools - Database Tools in
Recorder 6 and rebuild the taxon group, taxon name, taxon synonym
and taxon designation indexes. Note that rebuilding the taxon
designation index must be done last as it uses the other indexes.
Depending on the power of your computer(s) and the speed of your
network, where applicable, each rebuild may take 5-10 minutes to
run. On slower systems they may take somewhat longer.
PLEASE NOTE that to install dictionary upgrades
0000000J.sql and above you must have upgraded to version
6.14.4.

YOU MUST RUN THIS UPDATE BY ITSELF TO WORK
CORRECTLY. This is an exact copy of 0000000M.zip
which fails to run when placed together with 0000000K and 000000L
(despite the settings table indicated that it has). Running this
script will correct the settings table and update the habitats
dictionary. If you have already run 0000000M successfully you must
still run this upgrade to keep your settings table correct (it
simply will find nothing to update in the dictionary which is
fine). Updates the Habitat Dictionary. Updates three
lists (Marine Nature Conservation Review Classification, EUNIS
Habitat Classification, Biodiversity Action Plan Key (Priority)
Habitats) and adds three lists (Integrated Habitat System,
Vegetation communities of British lakes: a revised classification,
OSPAR threatened and/or declining habitats). Nb: Outer zip includes
an .ini file which provides a progress bar. |
